Additive-Disjunctive Heuristics for Optimal Planning

چکیده
The development of informative, admissible heuristics for cost-optimal planning remains a significant challenge in domain-independent planning research. Two techniques are commonly used to try to improve heuristic estimates. The first is disjunction: taking the maximum across several heuristic values. The second is the use of additive techniques, taking the sum of the heuristic values from a set of evaluators in such a way that admissibility is preserved. In this paper, we explore how the two can be combined in a novel manner, using disjunction within additive heuristics. We define a general structure, the Additive–Disjunctive Heuristic Graph (ADHG), that can be used to define an interesting class of heuristics based around these principles. As an example of how an ADHG can be employed, and as an empirical demonstration, we then present a heuristic based on the well-known additive h heuristic, showing an improvement in performance when additive–disjunctive techniques are used.

Landmarks for Numeric Planning Problems
The paper generalises the notion of landmarks for reasoning about planning problems involving propositional and numeric variables. Intuitively, numeric landmarks are regions in the metric space defined by the problem whose crossing is necessary for its resolution. The paper proposes a relaxationbased method for their automated extraction directly from the problem structure, and shows how to exp...
متن کاملCost optimal planning with LP-based multi-valued landmark heuristic
Landmark based heuristics are among the most accurate current known admissible heuristics for cost optimal planning. Disjunctive action landmarks can be considered as at-least-one constraints on the actions they contains. In many planning domains, there are many critical propositions which have to be established for a number of times. Previous landmarks fail to express this kind of general card...

متن کاملNew Admissible Heuristics for Domain-Independent Planning
Admissible heuristics are critical for effective domainindependent planning when optimal solutions must be guaranteed. Two useful heuristics are the h heuristics, which generalize the reachability heuristic underlying the planning graph, and pattern database heuristics. These heuristics, however, have serious limitations: reachability heuristics capture only the cost of critical paths in a rela...
متن کاملOptimal Heuristic Planning using Search Space Splitting
Heuristic search has been widely applied to classical planning and has proven its efficiency in finding a “good and feasible” plan as quickly as possible. Finding an optimal solution remains an NP-hard problem for which even the computation of an informative admissible heuristic remains a challenge. Compared to already proposed approaches, the originality in this paper is to compute an admissib...
